A Word From The Headmaster Of The Moorish American Institute

I am a man of letters. Ha, ha. I laugh at that, because I didn’t know what man of letters meant until after I had earned master’s degrees. I don’t take myself too seriously. I enjoy Moorish Culture and Traditions, especially the one that says, “Moors progress.” I enjoy the tools and fruits of a number of my accomplishments and acquired skills on a daily basis. Mostly cooking. But the foundation of me and daily outwardly expression is Shaolin Kongfu also known as Da Moor Bey Buddhism. Kongfu translates as, “One who works with fire over time.” I was a boy when I heard that and knew that if I could master working with fire, I could master anything. Cooking is one example. Defeating men who were trying to kill me in real-life street-fights are others. Sitting in classes, remedial and college level, over time, has earned me great rewards without bleeding, sweating, or any physical pain. Nevertheless, martial arts is a foundational tool of concentration and coordination of mind, body, and spirit that every Moor should have. My body is my temple. I promise to love me and take care of me and to take care of those around me at least as good as I take care of myself. The Moorish Tradition I live by is, “Honor Above All Else, Except Loyalty.”
